Ms. Anne Thrope posted a message on the front door of the coffee club and posted shorter versions on social networks:
A happy Thanksgiving to all! The coffee club will be closed on Wednesday, November 24 and Thursday, November 25. The shop will reopen at the usual time on Friday. I want our staff to relax and enjoy the holiday as much as I want you to enjoy the holiday.
I’m glad that November is considered a month for gratitude. I wish that in our gratitude we could set aside the bitter differences we experience. Maybe someday. I’m grateful for all of you, and I’m glad for that fresh cup of coffee each day in our community.
This time of year brings many memories of the people who have been part of my life. I’m thankful for each one of you because you are friends and you are customers. Conversations with you are rich and thoughtful and thought-provoking.
I also think of those in the past for whom I am grateful. I hope that you will do the same. I remember some long-gone friends or influencers, such as Pete Ironto from the first grade and Dale Johnson from the fourth grade. Pete’s father was in the Army. They moved after that school year. Dale and I competed on tests—a friendly competition that didn’t matter to anyone because we both made A’s. Her father worked for DuPont and was transferred to another city. The end of a friendship. Not all the people I remember are children. I think of many different acquaintances who were kind or who helped in one or another chapter in my life. You probably have people in your life like these—here for a season and then gone. We learn from them and maybe they learn from us.
Thanks for stopping by today. See you on Friday!
